I'm relieved to be coming back to the world of
solid blacks after two pages in a row like those
were. Every girl my age grew up with Barbie coloring
books and Barbie
storybooks. I had this book where you had to
buy sticker packs in order to complete the story.
Books like that were really popular briefly in the
80s. As you filled it up, you followed Barbie in
her utterly fabulous lifestyle. She did everything
from babysit for friends to visit a dude ranch to
jetsetting to Europe, and she did it all in a flawless
wardrobe. You know she never had to worry about
bulges or not finding her size, everything always
fit. She was always smiling, always accompanied
by her Ken, always admired by Skipper, and never
had a care in the world. In other words, rainbows
and unicorns flew out of her hair. That's the feeling
I was trying to get across and I don't know if I
nailed it or not but I hope I did.
Follow Scooter, Ferret
and Maridee from their
initial debut through their adventures with
high school reunions, screwy religous groups
and Macadamian Squirrels.
