Welcome to 2008! It's going
to be a great year and a very busy one. I've got
numerous projects in the works to start the year
and its going to be interesting balancing that
and what we do here in the world of Maridee!
I took the time to go see
the new Disney animated short playing in theaters
in front of "National Treasure 2". I
found the movie to be fairly forgettable, but
the Goofy short on "How to setup your home
entertainment system" was fantastic! It was
funny and accurately made in the same context
as the wonderful "How to...." shorts
from decades ago. Even the voice-over sounded
the same. Many of you may, or may not know, that
Disney shut down their traditional 2-d animation
division many years ago and made a run at competing
with Pixar head-on in 3d. That didn't end very
well for that establishment and they found the
3-d department dismantled recently and Pixar coming
on board instead. One of the first things John
Lassiter of Pixar did was to re-establish traditional
animation at the Disney studios and get their
cartoon shorts going again. This Goofy short is
the start of that. I hope it keeps going with
many more utilizing all the classic characters
like Donald, Mickey and Pluto. The quality of
animation, in my opinion, is still a bit too zippity-pop
for my tastes, but as I mentioned it's a great
cartoon all the same, and I loved the concept
of discussing a topic that we all can understand
and sympathise with. Make certain if you're going
to see "National Treasure 2" to get
there a bit early and watch the Goofy short before
it!
